The First of Many Secrets
What's the secret?
I hear this quite often, as if I've discovered the magic reason for success. The secret is though, is that there is no ONE magic reason for success that works for everyone. I've pondered this idea for at least a year now, why has it worked for me and not for others who started at the same time.
Am I special? Hell no.
Was I just lucky?
I believe I was, in part.
I was lucky to be intuitive enough that I was able to muddle through the whole process on my own and make it work, FOR ME. I am one of these people who has a constant internal monologue that assesses and reassesses everything that I do. I think it helps that I have spent the last 10 years in health research, systematically collecting data and anecdotally analyzing what it means in real time. "Why did that work? How does that make me feel? That's interesting, let's try that again to see if the results are the same." It's a constant mindful process that's enabled me to sort the good from the bad, what works from what doesn't. What is important to me and what isn't.
Critical thinking involves the objective observation and analysis of something in order to form an opinion. For me this has been a main reason for my success. Being able to think for myself and decide if something is working or not and then adjusting accordingly has allowed me to sustain this journey of change. The journey never stays the same and you need to be able to recognize the changes that occur in order to roll with the punches life throws at you.
I think one big mistake that many people make is blindly following someone else and their advice or ideas without taking their own situation, needs and what is important to them into consideration.
What works for one may not necessarily work for the next person and being discerning with advice, information and knowledge with how it relates to you and your life will go a long way in helping you to reach your goals as well as maintain them for the long term, because lifestyle change is a long term game.
This is only the first of many secrets to success on the journey of change. I hope you stick around to find out about more of them. :)
Yours in helping you find the real you, the you that you want to be.
